About
Past. Present. Future.
Born in 1987 in Iasi, Romania, Obie Platon has emerged as one of the leading voices in contemporary art—a practitioner whose work does not merely reflect the world but interrogates its codes. With a background in architecture and a deep affinity for geometry, the artist has constructed a distinctive visual lexicon—an architecture of symbols in motion—where kinetic abstraction, archetypal imagery, and incisive social commentary collide with calculated intensity.
His oeuvre weaves together fragments of cultural memory with visions of speculative futures. Through a masterful layering of signs culled from popular culture, mythology, and philosophical inquiry, he engages with the visual noise of late capitalism, transforming it into encrypted compositions that oscillate between revelation and cryptic resonance. His work functions as both cipher and mirror, inviting the viewer into an interpretive act that is as unsettling as it is illuminating. Obie Planton’s canvases and large-scale murals become stages upon which the forces of permanence and flux, utopia and disillusionment, memory and void, are held in dynamic suspension. This dialectical sensibility is not incidental; it is central to Platon’s visual manifesto—one that resists closure and insists on perpetual reconfiguration. His presence on both national and international art stages—through prestigious exhibitions and large-scale mural projects worldwide—underscores his growing prominence and critical relevance in the contemporary art scene. From his early public interventions, such as the mural depicting Saint George Slaying the Dragon, to his recent exhibitions, Platon’s trajectory unfolds as an expansive visual inquiry into an age marked by relentless acceleration. Far from passive aesthetic objects, his works demand to be read, decoded, and interpretated. In a time marked by upheaval, hyperconnectivity, and alienation, Obie Platon positions his art as a vital act of decoding. The artist offers neither consolation nor closure. He offers no answers—only visual enigmas, mirrors splintered under the weight of history, and portals into alternate ways of seeing. His work composes a map—both cerebral and emotional—of the contradictions, crises, dreams and beliefs of the 21st century.
