New solo show opens on September 30th at Kulterra Gallery, on 104-106 Stirbei Voda Street, Bucharest.
Connect/Disconnect is a contemporary story about fears and anxieties, construction and destruction, reality and illusion, and most important of all, about yourself. We didn’t even know that Prime Time was just the beginning of the whole storyline; therefore, its purpose was to announce a great global recession, as well as to awaken people not only to open their eyes but also to open their hearts and feel it coming. The new series is not about just the present yet also targets the future and the struggle of prematurely updating an entire society that is not ready for this to happen. It is crystal clear that evolution doesn’t wait for anybody to be ready. The series of images that you are convinced to watch by whoever or whatever algorithm gained your attention easily depict a state of this progressive process. Now is the time to determine what will go further and what will remain in the past regarding values, structures, dogmas, ideologies, and whatever needs to change to define the new era that we are entering. Both rational and emotional, this process of transformation is noticeable from the individual to the collective.
The exhibition entitled PRIME TIME signed by Obie Platon, took place between 24th – 31st October 2019. The new series of works of the Romanian artist is made of a complex visual language, heterogeneous and distinct, crystallized in a surrealistic mixture of symbols and transposed into experimental paintings.
